For the Crust:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract; beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Stir in boiling water until batter is smooth.
  3. Pour batter evenly into prepared pans. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely.
