Ingredients
Scale
For the Crust:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 3β4 tablespoons milk
- Assorted food coloring gels (red, green, blue, yellow)
- Decorations: sprinkles, small candies
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a sweater-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Place cookies 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 7-9 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to brown. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
- For the icing, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. The icing should be thick but pipeable. Divide into small bowls and tint with food coloring. Decorate the cooled cookies with icing and sprinkles to create fun, βuglyβ sweater designs. Let the icing set completely before serving.
