For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Thai chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
  • 1 head of butter lettuce, leaves separated

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Heat the oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the garlic and chilies and stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the fish sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Cook for another minute. Remove from heat and stir in the fresh basil leaves until wilted.
  4. To serve, spoon the warm beef mixture into individual butter lettuce leaves, creating little rolls or cups.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
