A decadent chocolate cake that is incredibly moist and topped with a rich, luscious chocolate ganache.

For the Crust:
- 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 and 3/4 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat the oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
- Add in the eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.
- Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans and bake for 30 minutes.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- For the ganache: heat the heavy cream until just boiling, then pour over the chopped chocolate.
- Let stand for a few minutes, then stir until smooth.
- Allow the ganache to cool and thicken slightly before spreading over the cooled cakes.
