  • Author: Chef Lolytta

Description

Classic, soft, and chewy sugar cookies cut into festive holiday shapes and decorated with a simple vanilla icing.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup colored sprinkles for decorating

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
  6. Place cookies 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until pale golden. Cool completely on a wire rack before decorating.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
