  • Author: Chef Lolytta

Description

These adorable and festive elf-shaped sugar cookies are a holiday classic. Decorated with colorful icing and sprinkles, they are a fun and delicious treat for the whole family to make and enjoy.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Red and green gel food coloring
  • Assorted sprinkles and decorating icing

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  3. Divide the dough in half. Tint one half with red food coloring and the other with green. Roll out dough on a floured surface and cut into elf shapes using a cookie cutter.
  4. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet for 2 minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
  5. Once completely cool, decorate the cookies with icing to create elf faces, hats, and outfits. Add sprinkles for extra festive cheer.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
