Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • For the batter: 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • For the lemon layer: 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9Γ—13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix 1 cup sugar, milk, and melted butter. Stir in the flour mixture until smooth. Pour into the prepared dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup sugar and 1/4 cup flour. Sprinkle over the batter.
  5. Sprinkle lemon zest over the mixture, then drizzle lemon juice on top.
  6. Pour hot water over everything without stirring. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden.

Notes

Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream for the best experience.
