For the Crust:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup molasses
- 1 cup hot water
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch square baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, then stir in the molasses until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the hot water, mixing just until combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan before serving.
