Description

A rich and comforting pasta dish featuring savory Italian sausage in a creamy tomato sauce with tender bowtie pasta.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb bowtie pasta (farfalle)
  • 1 lb mild or hot Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the bowtie pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour the marinara sauce into the skillet with the sausage. Stir in the dried basil, and season with salt and pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the heavy cream and grated Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and creamy. Add the cooked bowtie pasta to the skillet and toss until everything is well coated and heated through. Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve immediately.
