Classic Christmas Sugar Cookies

  • Author: Chef Lolytta

Description

Buttery, soft, and perfectly sweet sugar cookies that are a holiday classic. They hold their shape beautifully for decorating with royal icing or sprinkles.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  3. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a smooth dough forms. Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters.
  5. Place cookies on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 7-10 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden. Let cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
