For the Crust:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the oil, egg, vanilla, and buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix until combined. Stir in the hot water until smooth.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Once cooled, spread caramel sauce over the top of the cake. Sprinkle chopped pecans and chocolate chips evenly on top.
