A decadent and rich chocolate cake topped with caramel, pecans, and chocolate for a delightful turtle candy experience in cake form.

For the Crust:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the oil, egg, vanilla, and buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix until combined. Stir in the hot water until smooth.
  4. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Allow cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  6. Once cooled, spread caramel sauce over the top of the cake. Sprinkle chopped pecans and chocolate chips evenly on top.
